I write to endorse Mike Jette in the Democratic primary election for Pima County Attorney. I do so because I know from personal experience that he understands, in the words of the US Supreme Court that the criminal prosecutor’s job “is not that it shall win a case, but that justice shall be done.” As such, he is in a peculiar and very definite sense the servant of the law, the twofold aim of which is that guilt shall not escape or innocence suffer.”

As a former career prosecutor with experience as the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona, an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and an Arizona Assistant Attorney General, I understand the critical importance of prosecutorial experience and ethics in the leader of a prosecution office. I have seen Mike prosecute where appropriate and decline to do so where it is in the interest of justice.
